Maras chiles, Capsicum annuum, pronounced “mah-RAHSH”, are native to Southeastern Turkey and the chili was originally named after Maras, located in the south-central region of Turkey. Also known as Maras pepper is Turkish red pepper.

Maras chiles are typically only found crushed and unlike most of chili flakes you may be most familiar with, are not completely dry. Maras pepper is known for its rich, complex and slightly sweet flavor.

Maras pepper is a bright, orangish-red pepper with a balanced, medium heat. Known for its earthy, acidic flavor, Maras pepper makes a great garnish or adds heat and aroma to any dish.
